Sooner or later you will want to change the engine oil in your Suzuki SJ410 or SJ413. While this is a task that many of us take for granted, there are a large number of people who would send thier Sj in to a garage to have the job done. The job itself is relatively simple and can be done by anyone with limited mechanical knowledge.
Draining the old oil...
Place an old plastic washing-up bowl under the engine oil drain plug to catch the old engine oil. This drain plug is located under the engine on the sump. Clean the area around the drain plug with an dol clean cloth, and loosen the engine oil drain plug with a spanner. Allow all the old engine oil to drain into the bowl. After draining the old oil, clean the drain plug, and re-install it, making sure it is tightened securely. you may need to install a new crush washer.

NOTE: Engine oil must be disposed of correctly. Do not pour it down any drains, as this is illegal, and it will block the drain. After collecting it in an old wasing-up bowl, use a funnel to pour it into a sealable container. Take it to your local tip where they will have a suitable waste container for the correct disposal of your old engine oil.
Replacing the oil filter ...
The next step is to loosen the oil filter using an oil filter wrench/spanner. Before fitting a new oil filter, be sure to lubricate the new "O" ring with clean engine oil. Screw on the new oil filter by hand, until the "O" ring contacts the mounting surface. Tighten the oil filter ¾ of a turn from this point with the oil filter spanner.

Replacing the engine oil...
Now that the new filter in in place, fill the engine with clean engine oil until the level is between the "Full" and "Low" marks on the oil dipstick. A SJ413 should need about 3.7 litres (6.5/7.8 Imp/US pints), and a SJ410 will need about 3.0 litres (5.28/6.34 Imp/US pints).
Run the engine for three minutes, and then wait a further three minutes before checking the oil level on the dipstick. Add oil if necessary to bring the oil level up to the "Full" mark on the dipstick. Check to see that there are no oil leaks from the oil filter or drain plug.
