1985 SJ Radiator
1985 SJ Radiator
hi,
Im looking to replace my radiator, due to general age and some damage.
Are there any variations in type of radiator that can be fitted?
Also I assume I should flush out the coolant system before fitting a new rad, what is the best practice for this??
thanks
tim

Re: 1985 SJ Radiator
sorry Sj 413
Re: 1985 SJ Radiator
Your going to need one from either the 413 or sammy. This is because they are double core and the 410s are single core and narrower.

Re: 1985 SJ Radiator
yea you will need a 413/sammy rad, some burk fitted a 410 rad to my sammy and it kept overheating!

Re: 1985 SJ Radiator
Remember not to let the engine run too cool by using a rad too large. This can increase engine wear. The normal opperating temp of the engines are about 90 deg.
Re: 1985 SJ Radiator
Thanks people, I was planning a strainght swap, but just wondered if someone had found rads of other models of cars/trucked suited better.
How do you recommend flushing the water system?

Re: 1985 SJ Radiator
If i wanted to flush it i would shove a hose pipe down the top hose and turn it on. However i have removed my thermostat. What you need to do is rake the round cap off (2x12mm bolts) off the top hose on the inlet manifold, pop the stat out, and shove the hose in. However you shouldn't need to flush it in all honesty.
Re: 1985 SJ Radiator
Thanks for the tips, will just stick a hose in and flush it thorough!
