Ignition when I release the key?

Post by themac » Mon Nov 17, 2014 6:38 pm

Excuse my noob-ness, lol.

I've got a -86 sj413 and it doesn't fire up until I release the key. Is it supposed to be like that? Never seen that on any other car I've had.

When I turn the key the startmotor runs, but no ignition until I relese the key.

Welcome to the club

I can only assume when in the cranking position the switch is disconnecting the ignition circuit.
Unplug the ignition switch and get the multimeter on it I guess.

Don't they also do that sometimes if there just not enough juice in the battery?

Sounds fair if the battery charge is low, the starter can use it all.

Yep, that must be it. Tried with another battery today and it made no difference.

Have you got a ballast resistor? could be a fault on that circuit.
