Engine Rebuild Parts

Post by AndyD » Wed Apr 02, 2014 1:26 pm

Has anyone on here done a full engine rebuild?

I currently have a 1.6 (G16A) in pieces ready to rebuild, but my local garage (run by a friend of mine) is struggling to find the parts I'm after. All they can definitely get so far is the full gasket set, timing belt and accessory belts.
But I'm also in need of;
Main Bearing Shells
Thrust Bearings
Big-End Bearing Shells
Piston Rings

Anyone obtained these before?...

Thanks for the offer mike, how much is the right amount? Though I wouldn't need the pistons and pins if it's the full kit you have.

This is the reply I got from Kar Engines;

Hi Andy,

Thank you very much for your enquiry regarding the engine parts you require for the G16A.
Prices as off below;

HEAD SET UDS601 £28.50
CONVERSION SET (BOTTOM END) £18.00
TIMING BELT UTB4170 (NO KIT AVAILABLE NOW) DAYCO BRAND £12.50
BIG END BEARINGS £28.50 (ENGINE SET) CR4056
MAIN BEARINGS £44.00 (ENGINE SET) MB5587
THRUST WASHERS £8.00 (ENGINE SET) TW144
PISTON RINGS CHOICE OF LAYOUT £65.00

The head set, conversion set and timing belt are available ext stock but the other items I can get for you are special order and non returnable.
All prices are plus vat and carriage charge of £6.50.

Best Regards Darren

Kar Engines

So it seems they can get me what I need at £252 total.
Could you better that mike?
And might it matter the size of parts you have?
According to Haynes I need the main bearings in Std Sizes; 2x Yellow, 3x Colourless, big ends and piston rings would be Std size.
