Quick timing question!
Quick timing question!
I have a 413 with an su carb on Rockwatt manifold. The sj seems down on power, doesn't really like hills and tops out at 50mph. I'm running a rocklobster if that makes a difference. By looking at previous posts, I'm led to believe this is a timing issue, so
1, is it a timing issue?
2, what should the timing be with my setup? Is it the same as a standard carb??
Thanks, Neil

I'll be honest, I'm running a weber with a rocklobster and top speed is about the same, when i took it on the motorway lorries were over taking me! What size tyres have you got?

Re: Quick timing question!
Mine is running well with standard timing on a 1.6.
How well tuned is the carb? What needle and spring are you running?

Thanks for the replies!
I have a BDL needle & red spring
Tyres are 235/75 15's. I was hoping to go to 31"s but am a bit reluctant now if that's all the power i'm going to get.

Re: Quick timing question!
What is your timing set at? Was it set with the idle at the correct speed, the vacuum advance disconnected and blocked off?
Re: Quick timing question!
I definitely blanked the vac advance off. I think the timing was 10 degrees and the idle was around 800
Re: Quick timing question!
As long as there's no pre-ignition that should be fine
Maybe the mixture is out, should easily be able do over 50mph on that size tyre.

Re: Quick timing question!
Mines on 235/75r15 too, I thought my issue was that I needed bigger tyres, the gearing is too low for what I do, i was going to put my original transfer box back in, maybe mine has a running issue too?
Re: Quick timing question!
Have you checked that it advances correctly when revved?

Re: Quick timing question!
Turns out timing & mixture were fine. 6 month old spark plug with < 500 miles on it was knackered.
Runs much better now, but good to know it'll still do 50mph on 3 cylinders!
Thanks for the help though
