Don't get me wrong Richard knows how to build an awesome link set up (I've driven zero so can vouch for how capable that thing is!) as do quite a few others in the UK but if you want to build something yourself then the best place to research is on US sites as there is a wealth of knowledge on them.

Plus if you can get a kit car or a mini through an IVA test then there is no reason that you could not get a linked and coiled SJ through one. Yes there are lots of silly niggly things that need to be adhered to but it's anything but impossible!


Cheers Anton, mine is far from finished yet. It might get coiled eventually but then I might just build a buggy from scratch after the LWB and LJ80 is done.

Couldn't agree more - for a start, air suspension is a serious drool moment for me, and no-one in the world knows air suspension like the 'mericans...

No, you're right - far from impossible, it's just a headache that, with a bit of foresight, you won't need to worry about.

My idea of using Vit trailing arms comes with this advantage - it's genuine Suzuki parts that bolt into existing Suzuki mounts (at least on the chassis side of things) and doesn't need an IVA because you're not adding to the chassis except legally allowable crossmembers.

That's not to say it's the best way, by any means - just one idea that *seems* to be fully legal.

That's the answer, if you want a full on comp truck like Paul's is it can't really be road legal, don't get me wrong it's nice to drive but it's no Bentley !!

I think 3 link is the ultimate, but only when it's done right. I have seen a lot of coil set ups and this one done by Richard Wattam in my personnel opinion is the best, this thing still has more to offer as well, as dislocating coils can be fitted.

I know people with the rocky road bolt on coil setup which all say its a death trap !! The axle steer is horrendous and the kit isn't built that well either.

I'd never seen that coil build before but it is the dogs! The quality of the work is top notch. Built with pride doesn't describe it.

I'm actually quite looking forward to being able to tell people i'm running some RW gear in my Zuk.
