Group I gave looked at the part numbers of the 180x30 transfer handbrake brake shoes available online. Question if I purchase these do I needs to fit the handbrake lever off the old shoes and drill holes for springs as they appear to be different

Those pics are in regards to the breather set up on the transfer box and not the drum brake so they are a bit off topic for this thread. Probably why they haven’t been fixed.
Are you looking to extend your breathers on your transfer box? If so I’ll grab some pics later and do a little how to in a different thread as it’s really easy.

I am interested in people's experience with a "standard" transfer box handbrake system or a X-Eng system.

Standard transfer box system is fine, just needs adjusting occasionally.
X-eng has better holding power “when” it works, I found it needs more setting up and adjusting than a stock brake. It needs many mods to make it work reliably and not eat pads. It also rattles and has long handbrake lever travel. The cable routing is also a nightmare and you need to find the more flexible type of handbrake cable.
The calliper used for it is actually designed for small plant machinery like dumper trucks that only travel at low speeds, IMO it is not suitable for a road vehicle.
If used offroad then both might need the shoes replacing more often. However I find the stock shoes last longer than X-eng pads. I have had a set of new X-eng pads disappear in a weekend before.
I bought my X-eng when they came out, ran it for quite a few years but was never really happy with it. The last straw was when I bent the disc.
I took off my X-eng and went back to a standard drum. I have never regretted it and will never run another one.
