HELP bloody !!!!! snap ring front axle
HELP bloody !!!!! snap ring front axle
HELP
Having said it is pretty easy taking knuckle joint apart I have got stuck putting all together.
The bloody !!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! axle end snap ring without circlip plier holes ,I've got normal circlip pliers with points for holes but these are different, without the right tool how the !!!!!! !!!!!! do you put it on. The ones on the fwhub were difficult but possible because on work bench possible to hold everything still, but these ones the bloody axle slides in when forcing with all tools i've tried with.
I've tried everything I can think of and loud swearing but no.
Any ideas ?
is it possible to buy circlips snap rings with the holes on ends of the right size ?
Can I just not put them on? what can go wrong.
Thanks
Steve

Can you not turn atound you jaws on you circlip pliers so they open external and internal I know I can on my ones. Any local fixing shop should have sets of circlips.
Or I think eith that type you put it above the halfshalftine it up and bang it hard over the top so it stretches around and snaps in.

I normally use one of the FWH bolts and screw it into the hole on the end of the half shaft, you can then put a ring spanner round it and use that to hold the halfshaft in place. Might be advisable to get a friend to hold the spanner while you fiddle with the circlip.
To get the circlip itself onto the end of the shaft, I usually use a combination of tiny screwdrivers and lots of swearing
I find that if you can get one end hooked into the lip where it's supposed to sit, you can use one of the tiny technical flathead screwdrivers and lever the other side open enough to get it on
It is very fiddly though! As scottie says, if you can get them its a good idea to put decent circlips on, otherwise you will regret it if you have to take it off again!!!

See when you use the bolt to pull the shaft out and use proper circlips with circlip pliers it takes about 2 seconds with no swearing

Re: HELP bloody !!!!! snap ring front axle
im under the impression it fine to run without them??
that said I usually hook one side in and use a small flat blade screwdriver around a 3rd of the way round and lever round the shaft. works for me.
