have you checked that you're getting enough fuel up mate? if you whip a fuel line off and turn the engine over you should get a fair squirt out. if not check the fuel filter isn't blocked up

Try changing the fuel filter.
Are you running the standard 1.6 carb? if so is the fuel stop solenoid wired up?

I'd check the coil. Mine is doing the same thing. Won't idle unless the idle stop screw is wound all the way in. Ive just replaced the HT leads and its made a hell of a difference!
I can tell its the coil, as my temp gauge takes its power from there... when the coil is under load, my temp going up 20 degrees, then it drops off again when you put your foot on the clutch.
I just bought an uprated MSD blaster 2 coil... Only £45... I will post up how well it works!

Mine was the coil in the end... it really goes like stink now
First, has the timing been adjusted and is it in the right place?
Second, have you just put the SU on? assuming the mixture and idle are making no difference, is the vacuum advance connected? most SUs have advance at zero throttle, so if thats the case it will be putting your timing off

So did it run before the plugs and leads were changed? Has anything else been changed since it last ran?
Can we have some pics of how the carb is set up please.
Cheers.
