Use a jump lead to turn it over.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

you mean its not turning the engine over? hmm, try feeding power to the smaller wire on the starter instead?

right...good news.....managed to fire the engine up!!!!
here's the thing...i ran a wire from the small wire where you said direct to the battery, then a live where from the solonoid to the battery, question is....will anything burn out between directly linked or now?

You just want it wired up as normal, I.e the large wire from batt to starter and the earth wire attached to a starter bolt.

Then bridge a fused live to the ignition coil. Then all you need to do is put a wire on the spade terminal on the starter and connect it to the battery positive to turn the starter and get it started, then disconnect it once its running.
