Gearbox bearing re build kits

Post by ojr1979 » Wed May 22, 2013 10:21 am

Hi looking to do a rebuild on my sj410 5 speed gearbox and I've noticed that the bearing on the front end ntn 63/28 lu is a sealed bearing,it's the only one that's a sealed type from what I've seen so far.however all the rebuild kits I've seen don't sell a sealed bearing there all open like the rest of the bearings in the case so my question is does this even matter??? Cheers

I've not actually rebuilt a 5 speed unit but a few months ago I did so on my 4 speed sj410 (now sold) - yes the bearing you describe was the sealed type, possibly exactly the same specification you described. I think it is important to replace it with correct type because the plastic cover on the bearing seals the oil - use an uncovered bearing and it would flow through the bearing freely.

I'm sure that you will have no trouble getting this bearing - I got mine off the shelf in Barnstaple at a very reasonable price and you are better located than myself in the depths of the Westcountry.

Although I haven't tried sourcing the particular bearing you're referring to, I have been amazed at the parts that I've been able to get off the shelf or over night from my local Suzuki dealership. Some are really well priced, others are ridiculous but I've found it's always worth a go.

Had someone who works with bearings day in day out take a look and said the bearing is fine I now believe it to be the needle bearing directly behind! Anyone got a part number for this? Thanks
