Alright guys? Well after having a tinker at the weekend I found my alternator is not putting enough power.

My problem is this, I took some numbers off it and it doesn't match the one listed for the zuke.

I've attached a photo of the numbers from my current alternator. Blue print say it's a 35amp unit.

Any ideas?

Thinking about it, is there a heavy duty option? As I run a fair amount of lights etc

would an alternator off a g16a vit engine work?

if not im pretty sure there is a 100amp volvo one layin about somewhere

you can make any alternator fit as long as they have a pulley that matched the belt type you have.

From what I could find its a landrover defender one

Can I assume it no longer has the original connector plug.

ah brilliant! cheers dude, the vit one was a no go due to the fact its a multi rib belt as opposed to a v belt. however im gonna dig out that ol volvo one and have a look. i know its a v belt pulley so its just a question of bein able to wire it up ok. 100amp as well, so extra heavy duty if it'll go on

Cheers darrell. Dude with that in mind, I've just received a 40 amp unit. Would this be enough to power the zuke?
I'm running 4 spots, each of which is using standard 55w bulbs. Only other bits I have are a cd player and a small
Reversing light. But obviously is only used in short bursts.

Useful formula

Watts divided by volts = Amps
IE: 4 spotlights at 55watts each = 220watts

220 divided by 12 (volts) = 18.33 amps


It should be ok but depends on the other loads and how long you use them for. I assume you would still have the standard headlights on. If you tootling around a field shooting the alternator rpm may not be high enough for a good charge rate though.
