long time no speak

Post by firemansam » Wed Feb 18, 2009 11:59 pm

Hi guys! gosh its been a while...
Hope everyone is well?

Sorry to say I havnt been here in ages :( Uni work etc eating up all my time.

however not so much time that i cant still wander off the beaten track every now and then ;)

anyway, during one of these offroad wanderings, my truck developed a strange vibration, only noticable at high speed (I say HIGH speed, I mean SJ high speed in the 50mph region!) I can feel it in the steering wheel and the accelerator peday, Ive checked all the obvious places like motor and transfer mounts, and all the driveshafts and axles... Im stumped!

I figured Id fit a steering damper, as I ditched the original unit when I fitted power steering... thatd probly help out with the vibration aswell as smooth out the road...

and when summer comes (IF it comes this year) Il be chopping and welding and painting me zook :)
I plan to cut out half the rear tub and fit a fuel tank (50L) recessed into the floor. Il replace the inner wheel arches cus theyre ROTTEN! And fit some new flared on the outside, probably some anus or defender ones... then respray the whole thing... Dodge Viper Red :D

Im also planning a rear disc conversion using Ford F150 brakes and rotors.
Anyone done a rear disc conversion? Anything I should look out for?

Cheers!

Sam

Welcome back!

I look forward to seein loads of piks from your build!

I suffered the same with the vibrations on my SJ i stuck a new steering dampner on mine and it sorted it rite out!

as for the rear disc conversion, you will probably need a bias valve otherwise your back will lock up before your front and that aint good!

I have rear discs on mine, but i am currently havin isues with the calipers as one keeps binding and it failed its MOT on it

check your bering there may be play it them.

iv dun the con on mine 2 i used the original calips and hangers, off a doner sj and cut my drums down to fit in
the disk. i am also using a prop brake so there is no need for a bias valve as they seem to mess up and make you rear bind,
let me no if ya wanna no more and ill give you more detail
