Modified Shocks HELP!!!

Post by arran amt » Mon Aug 22, 2011 9:29 pm

I bought a 1986 suzuki SJ413, it was bought second hand of ebay and was modified by the previous owner. It is only being used on the road so I need it lowered but i do not have a clue where to start...

Bottom shock brackets have been changed/ modified

I was told I am better off changing the axles ?
It has pro comp shocks

Much help is needed, if pictures are needed i will take them

Dependant on what needs changing will depend on whether i get the parts or buy a non runner and use it as a donnor

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arran

:welcome:

if someone is saying you might need new axles then I guess it might have SPOA lift.

best bet is to get some pics up and we can advise yoy from there

:welcome: to :S:cuk matey.

If you could get some pictures up showing us the set up that would be very helpful

Also where in the country are you? There might be someone near you who can take a look and advise.

Yerp you have SPOA (spring perch over axle) conversion.

An axle swap is easier by far. The plates that the shocks mount to are standard and if you decide to go SPUA then id leave them and see how you get on.

Its fairly easy to go back to SPUA providing you get matching axles.

EDIT!

Top pic is standard set up for shocks, just moved on top. Bottom pic is not and will possibly require new plates.

EDIT AGAIN!

the bottom pic is the front i guess? And it appears to only have 1 U bolt! This is VERY unsafe if you are using it on the road. However it also appears to have the standard spring perch still in place under the axle.

Yes you have SPOA. It may be possible to grind off the extra perches welded to the axle and use the original ones again. You may have some propshaft spacers that would need removing and your steering bar may need to be replaced with the original depending on what you have fitted (need a pic from the front low down). The shocks may well be ok and the extra length on the brake hoses should not be a problem, just have to make sure they don't rub on anything or fit standard again.

I think it has the 2 u-bolts fitted but looks a very poor conversion/welding...

The bloke before was an animal, ive been over the truck and tightend most things including wheel nuts leaf springs, the carb and loads more. Its silly, ive haad the welder go over the front shocks and he wasnt happy about the previous owners welding.

As it stands the rear shock mounts are ok to fit standand shocks on,
so my problems lie with the front axle and shocks.

Getting a new axle seems to be the best option
