Hi everybody, thanks for having me along.
I have just discovered this forum as an English owner of a 2002 Grand Vitara 1.6SE.
I have owned the car for several years now and it has been faultless. It has now just rolled over the 100,000 miles but until recently has given me few problems: a rear wheel bearing for it's last MOT was its biggest problem to date.
I spent many years in the motor trade but that was a long time ago and a lot of the technology has since passed me by leaving me out of my depth with much of the digital tech employed on cars these days.
I have had a few Engine Check Light issues with it over the years but a code reader indicated a fault with the EGR valve. I cleaned it a few times and finally replaced it and all is good.
However, recently I have had problems with the Check Engine Light flashing but not staying illuminated accompanied by a misfire/hesitation at low engine speeds as the throttle is opened. No fault code were stored when checm with my code reader.
I have changed the plugs and the two HT leads. I have also checked the resistance of the two coil pack windings and they are almost identical (485 and 487 ohms).
I wondered if anybody had experienced a similar fault and could suggest a possible cause. A person on an American forum had suggested an EVAP system fault as his electric valve wasn't closing properly after venting the fuel tank and was presumably causing an air leak.
Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner to check fuel trims etc and it would be difficult to justify the cost of buying one for use on a car that may not last more than another year or two. Similarly, taking it to a local Suzuki dealer for diagnosis/repair sounds expensive too!
Any ideas welcome!
Thanks for listening to such a rambling first post.
