Vitara Locked Rear Wheel

Post by tos11n » Sun Nov 01, 2020 10:21 pm

Went to move my 2005 Grand Vitara 2.0l after it had been sitting for 4 days and rear n/s wheel is locked solid. Thought brake shoes were stuck but on jacking it up wheel can be turned about half an inch forwards and backwards and prop shaft also seen to move the same amount so brakes free.
Car showed no signs of problems or noise/clunking when last driven and diff is quiet, hi/low gears work without issue.
Anybody got any ideas ?

I usually park cars with handbrake 'off' when possible at home, the brakes can seize 'on' quite quickly.
Do you have a nylon hammer ? I would maybe temped to remove wheel and smack the drum (assuming drum brake) a few times in case it will free off any jammed brake shoe.Alternatively maybe use a piece of wood to carefully smack the drum through the wheel spokes (assuming Alloy wheel).Depending on actual fault - a brake drum type brake system might allow the wheel to move move slightly !
