Electrical/Fuel ??
Electrical/Fuel ??
Hi I have a vitara jx4 u 1.6 8v w reg (2000) soft top
It runs not to bad but when you take off the second HT lead the engine don't stutter like the rest
I've changed plugs and leads and distributor cap and dizzy pin
Could it be fuel pump ?? Also it ticks over at 1500 rpm when started cold takes ages to calm down to 1000 rpm . The timing is spot on I get good spark from lead at no 2 piston (3) on firing order 1342
Any help would be appreciated as I'm spending loads to rectify being disabled I ain't got a lot of dosh
Kind regards And btw I'm new to here. So hi everyone. All compression tests are all pots within same 200 mark

I've had this problem with a 1.6 8 valve, unfortunately I never managed to diagnose the problem. The next step I tried after changing all that you have is to make sure the inlet valve is opening, or that the outlet isn't stuck open

I would do a compression test on all cylinders next.

Are you doing the firing order 1,3,4,2 Clockwise? 1 being the front of the engine?

Re: Electrical/Fuel ??
Hi guys thank you for your posts I've done compression test all pots are within the same range I was wondering well after talking to rhino ray he suggested maybe it's my distributor??? Any ideas and prices please. Regards Graham
Re: Electrical/Fuel ??
Im finding that I'm getting a lot of air when I undo my petrol cap is that normal??
Re: Electrical/Fuel ??
Have you removed the number 2 plug shortly after running...if so does it look washed? sometimes the inlet manifold gasket can fail between a water port and this causes water to get into the inlet port on the head, causing a misfire.
Also I would avoid someone you mentioned........His work is shocking, I've worked on vehicles that he has 'built' and I use the term 'built' loosely. If it was the distributor itself it would cause issues on all cylinders, not just one.

As in a vacuum or pressure?Grom1t wrote:Im finding that I'm getting a lot of air when I undo my petrol cap is that normal??
Could be a blocked breather. I very much doubt its related to the running issues, again this would cause general running issues and not just a misfire on one cylinder.
