Hi All,

Just got myself a lovely, almost rot free SJ413 and its ace!! Looking to put it in for an mot to see what it (if anything!!) fails on but the engine is running really fast as soon as you turn it on, just over 2000rpm! The guy I bought it off says he had the AA look at and they said it was a sensor? Does this sound familiar or would anyone have a idea of what it could be? It's a 1995 Samurai, 1300 fuel injected engine. Any help would be most appreciated... Thank you in advance...

Welcome!

Ask him to get the AA report, it'll tell you which sensor. Better that guessing...

Does it have an Idle Control Valve or Throttle Position Sensor? - If so, they tend to fail on the 1300 jimny's quite often!

Thanks all... Where is the Idle Control Valve or the Throttle Position Sensor? Its a 1995 SJ413 Samurai, where's the best place to find out what it has? Sorry, new to these cars so doing a bit of learning....

Haha, on my Jimny it's on the throttle body?

I believe on a 1995 model you can put a fuse in and read the codes. I'll have to check my manuals to confirm the procedure though.

Could be the auto choke playing up. Does it settle down to normal when it's warmed up?

There is no auto-choke.
Check all the vacuum lines and check for leaks around the intake manifold. Pay particular attention to the vacuum pipes going to the throttle opener at the back of the throttle body, it should only be engaged on initial start up.
