What are people doing for tool/parts storage.

Post by Gilly_SJ » Fri Apr 15, 2016 1:20 pm

As title really. I'm planning on building an MDF box for tools, straps and odds and sods like water etc etc. Anyone else done similar or just bolted a tool box to the floor?

Mdf is a waste of time mate if it gets damp it swells up, if your keen on wood use marine ply.
I use a massive army holdall and a zip up tool bag for my kit, easy in easy out

I always seal it with PU so moisture isn't too much of an issue, plus I never go wading properly to actually get it wet.

Ply is too dear around this way to be bothered with only planning on this costing about £15 and an hour of my time

Personally I don't like any permanently mounted storage, water/mud gets trapped under it, especially when off roading with the roof off and speeds up corrosion.

I've always just bolted/strapped ammo boxes down that can easily be removed for cleaning.
I have a large ammo box for spares and/or ropes and another small one for all my tools, good thing is they can be swapped between vehicles easily or just removed when you don't need them.

they can be picked up cheaper than this.

They are a brilliant idea actually! I'll have a look to the local surplus store see what they have

I just chuck a large ammo box behind my seats with all my commonly used tools in it, if I need to help another zook owner out I just take the whole tool box ;)

I have a wood crate with my straps and rope in and a old tool box with my tools in, just got some tie down eyes to fit to the floor to secure them.
