im no good with electrics! thats one thing you should know...
my SJ is a non starter, shortly before this i replaced the starter motor, from moving the sj about the yard for a few days and not really moving it properly the battery ran low and one day i went to fire her up,
it slowly began to turn over then just white smoke rising up from behind the dash and a almost stuck sound from the starter motor so stopped gave a second attempt and there's no life in her replaced the battery and still no luck,
so im calling you guys to see what you think, my friend thinks its cooked the starter motor, another one thinks there's a burnt out wire somewhere?
if anyone has any clues please help, cant wait to get he going again!!
she also runs when you give her a push. :er:

seeing the smoke came from behind the dash, you could have cooked the starter solenoid wire. do all the other things on the dash still work, and have you tried to see if the starter motor works by putting 12 volt straight onto the starter solenoid?
It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out

Sound like the most likely wire to have burnt out is the trigger wire, there's a black with yellow tracer wire from the ignition switch to the starter try running a new wire to replace this. Or you can turn the ignition on and just connect a wire to the spade terminal on the starter and just connect it to the battery + to see if that works. Only needs to be touched against the battery though to see if it triggers the starter, if that works then hook it up to the ignition switch to replace the existing trigger wire.
