what's the best way to find a cheap sj or similar that is capable of passing future mots? Is a £1000 car always going to be a rust bucket?

I just took my time and looked for one on ebay, ended up paying £1300 for an sj410 van with 53,000 miles on the clock and only has the odd bit of surface rust on the body. Took me 6 months to find though!
If you want one with no rust whatsoever you're looking at £2000+ from what I've seen, and there are often a couple of £3000 stunners knocking about on the web.
The only real bit of advice is to wait for a good one and don't settle for the many average trucks on the internet that will cost you £1,000s in the long run!

I think that Scottie's truck will be coming up for £2k(ish) soon.

Mike had a really nice SJ for peanuts recently, he's got a non-MOT'd one going for 450 right now. Have a word about what it would take to get it through an MOT, or if he's got any other vehicles in the pipeline.
