Steering Problem

Post by ferris » Wed Mar 12, 2014 6:48 pm

Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a problem im having with my steering. Its been fine up until monday evening now it just seems to have a mind of its own, mainly pulling to the left.
So far i have checked the brakes are not locking on
no play in the wheels, bearing seem fine
Ball joints on the steering bars look fine
Power steering is working
shocks are fine
Tracking is fine
Tyres are at the same pressure
Rag joint had a tear in it so i made a new one but made no difference

Now im stuck and dont know what it could be. The only thing i can think off is maybe the axle is bent.

Is it doing it all the time? Under braking? Randomly at any time?

Have you got a steering damper on there? Can't remember if someone said you don't need one with power steering

Not the most likely candidate but ive heard they can break one way so might be worth checking

What's the bushes and bolt tightness at the ends of the springs like?

The bolts on my D flex shackles once came a little loose and it was very scary.

Thanks for the replys guys. Iv checked the steering damper and that's fine. The shackles are nice and tight Bush's look good. Haven't checked the cv's yet. Is there a way of testing them without taking the hubs apart?

surely if the freewheeling hubs are unlocked the CV wont make a difference apart from when you are actually turning the steering?
I drove around with a busted CV for ages ;)
