Thanks Twiss,
so i also need 26 spline spider gears for the front or a sami rear diff for the front, is that correct?

yeah as far as im aware you build the diff with everything from the sammy diff except the ring and pinion, those are the only bits you swap
you should get the diffs professionally built unless you have the correct tools and know how to set them up properly

My SJ has got through things on 31" tyres that a mate with a landcruiser on 33's couldn't - he was getting hung up on his diff, where I wasn't. The extra clearance *does* make a difference.

Nice one chaps
what is a solid crush collar, is it between the pinion bearings?

Yes it fits between the bearings.
I don't understand the benefit of a solid one, over the normal crushable one. And I would think it is an absolute pig to get the length spot on, as it's purpose is to set the pre load on the pinion bearings.

The idea of a solid crush collar is it doesn't break down under massive load.... That's how rob Storr explained it to me.
Plus you can use it time and time again, you can't with a normal one

But the bearings take the thrust load. The collar only sets pre load, or zero clearance in the inner races.
Setting this correctly without shimming it to take account of manufacturing tolerances will be very hard.
Granted if done correctly it could be reused.

Must be the reason why then. All I know is he strongly maintains it makes diffs stronger...
So il fit them to mine next time....
Even if it's Hoccus will make it easier for my diff builder
