What would you do???

Post by jonnyswift » Tue Dec 17, 2013 12:46 pm

Hi all,
I have been hunting around the forums and want your advice.
I want to put 33's on and do a vl with yj springs, inspired by Scottie's build.
The main thing i want advice on is axels.
Would you stick with suzuki and go chrome alloy shafts all round and lots of trusses,
Or would you go toyota, but i cant believe the prices they go for.
What do you think?

John

I'm just on Sami axles, standard shafts. I think Ferris is just on standard 413 axles.

For 33s I would stick with SJ axles and just update the internals / go full float on the rear etc. I ran standard 410 axles for ages with mine on 33s and with the 1.6 and only blew up a few CVs, but with the power id imagine you'll end up running updated axles would probably be a good idea

However with my Lwb I'm going to shorten a vitara rear axle and convert it to full float as they have stronger diffs.

Hilux axles are very heavy and personally I wouldn't run them unless i wanted 37s

And cheers matey :doublethumbs:

Nice one guys,
Yep i will run reasonably big power, and 37's might not be out of the question, but later on.
I just want to build something super strong and try to do it once.
Now then the big question i am probably going to swear now, what about land rover axles they are strong and cheap :stirthepot:

I didnt know they were expensive to upgrade.
Is there any other options, I cant bring myself to spend up to £1000 for some scabby hilux axles.

Mike Harris is still running Samurai axles with 35s and seems to have now built them up to the stage they are strong enough.

I saw Mikes build, Very nice, he does seem to work his zuk hard.
I didnt realize he was on 35's.
Sami axle's it is then, i think youre correct. I didnt really like the idea of putting landrover bits on a suzuki anyway.

Landy axles are strong. Just not as strong as others from what I've heard.

I'm sure Mike was on 35s unless he swapped to 34s. It had 35s on it at some point anyway.

Now don't get me wrong I've broken some suzuki axle parts, but I run boggers.

Depends how you drive and gearing ect.

These are close to 34 and are 13 wide ish, I've always thought about yota axles, land rover ect, but have you ever tried to lift a yota / lr axle?! You can't. Sj axle I can compLete !!

The mods are there to make them strong, solid crush collars, uprated shafts, fully floating back axles, axle trussing. It all works trust me .....
