What do you mean Jordi! The maruti IS a Suzuki SJ just built in India with an engine that we should have got!
I have to say I'd rather the maruti, I'd quite like to cut it up for 33s with no lift.
I'm still a bit 50/50 with nivas kinda think they look cool but ugly at the same time.

Now you raise a valid point Scott. How do you go about modding a niva?
Especially with its monocoque body, don't think we can just cut them up as we like and bodge a new bit in, also the independant front suspension will only lift on springs so far.
Last time i checked there wasn't exactly a thriving aftermarket parts business or a exceedingly popular web based forum for the Lada Club UK. Certainly not to the standards i have grown used to.
But the Niva would make a good daily drive.

Id love a maruti, but getting one into the uk seems like a big hassle, so i'd have to choose the niva. I've always had a love of eastern block cars (I was a moderator in russianmilitarytrucks.com for a while) The rugged simplicity of the niva is the same as that of an SJ and is part of the appeal! Another deciding factor would be that I already have an SJ!

Is that not part of the reason for owning a SJ
As for which one I couldnt say, always liked the niva from when i was a kid, but Ive got SJ in my system.

my first 4x4 was an LJ, I have never been without an LJ for the last 27 years and still have 2 now, and have had 12 in total as well as 12 SJ's.
I have also had 2 Niva's. I'll let you guess where my loyalties lie!!!!
I liked the Lada but still prefer the Suzukis.
I've also had 2 land rovers as well without a doubt the most overrated 4x4 by far!!!
Lada was better built than that junk!!!

a new niva would be nice, but id far rather have one that was just holding on for dear life, and modified beyond recognition.
suzukis are ok i guess, but ladas are sub zero;) im developing a strong russian accent by just owning one
