Totally standard stored on my drive 2000 miles a year 3rdpft £194.60

Same conditions with all mods declared £196.07

Good times. Best hurry up and finish while that quotes still valid!!!!

My advice is to just phone around everyone, get quotes as a named driver, as a main driver but with experienced drivers as a named driver etc.

Try 2gether they always used to be cheapest for me.

just phone around and phone around asking companies if they can beat your lowest quote.

Remove any mods, rollcages etc. fit an alarm and immobiliser

limited mileage maybe?

Try some classic car insurers and explain that you have restored it to original spec and say that you are a member of an owners club (here)

I tried the classic route couldn't find one for under 21's
Try Quinn direct mate, but remove all the extra covers ie breakdown windscreen etc read though my mates policy and it's for cars no older then 7 years and his is 15 years old yet he's paid for all the additional cover  naughty really

Under 3000 miles a year is the limit for cheaper ins. these days. Used to be 5k and think it was 8k before that.

On the safety side I registered rear disc conversion and suspension uprated aswell as immobiliser and rear sears removed.

Registered the engine aswell but presume they look for brake and suspension improvements to go with it which keeps the price about the same.

Registered the paint as non-standard with a value of £1 as it couldnt be zero :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha:

Joe,

I'm having the same problem with my son, he's just turned 17 this month....

I have been looking in depth for over a year now at the best (cheapest) way to do it so here's what i've found...

Insurance quotes are all different for different people, just because someone else gets a good quote from Churchill etc it doesnt mean you will even if all the details are nearly the same.

so the "try X, Y and Z they were cheap for me" doesnt work... (I've tried it)

Apart from your age, the car and your postcode are the main factors in the quote price.

Adding him onto my policy as a named driver put my policy from £200 to £3000, they seem to have sussed this dodge out and will not pay out on a claim if they find out the named driver is actually the main driver..

For my son, all the popular Group 1 insurance, low spec, smallest engine cars such as Clio, peugeot 106, corsa etc resulted in quotes around the £3000 mark. (he stays in rural Scotland, low risk postcode)

The cheapest quote I could get was for a pre-1970 VW Beetle 1200cc for these the quote was £1800, way below the rest at £3000

Adding experienced named drivers will again reduce the premium, as does adding a spouse, you may not have one of these, take my advice and keep it that way!! :)

If you complete the Pass Plus driving course you can reduce the quote even futher , in the Beetle quote it was reduced to £1500

The black box thing can be added and reduces the cost even further but lets you away with nothing! they will increase your premium if they see any signs of dodgy driving (apparently driving round a roundabout can be flagged up as dodgy driving) but as you said, they can't be fitted to the SJ or the Beetle (no electrics speedo) :)

The SJ, even the 1000cc 410 is group 6 insurance which is a killer for a first time driver trying to get a low quote,

As mentioned already, try the classic/agricultural/farming companies, you may get a good deal

You may have to get something else for a year or two until your no claims starts to kick in...

When i had a company car I insured a Citroen 2CV for 6 years that wasnt even on the road, just to build up my no claims bonus for when I eventually needed it.

Sad times indeed but too many young lads are now jumping into high powered motors and causing huge damage, and these compensation claims can be huge..

when I passed my test my first car was a 1300cc MK2 Escort with about 57 Bhp. I bet you'll struggle to find many cars under 100bhp now

I think Highlander has got it in one really!

It is a shame that the irresponsible 'Boy racers' and all these people who make false claims for 'whiplash' (ohhh i've got a slightly stiff neck that lasted for 1 day and didn't stop me from going to work or doing anything but I'll claim compensation because I can) ruin it for the rest of us. I can't say I'm a perfect driver but still I've never made an insurance claim or had a claim against me but in the last few years my insurance has just got more expensive and more expensive :argh: It's about time insurance companies actually started rewarding the people who don't cost them money like it used to be :argh:

Well to be fair, my insurance is cheap.

Probably because I'm 42 live in the country, have full no claims and annual milage limits.

i have three cars insured at the minute, all TPF&T

£165 1.3 Samurai (Swift Cover)

£153 2.9 4x4 Sierra (AA insurance)

£219 2.9 Scorpio Cosworth (Norwich Union)

I stuck my son in for a quote on the Scorpio and it was £17,000 :)

Hi, I've been diving for the last 10 years, I've got full no claims, 3 points and my partner with little driving experiance and im type 1 diabetic and it is fully comp insurance.

I had a Renault laguna 3.0 v6 200 odd hp, I was paying £320 a year for this, changed to the freelander while the laguna is being repaired and it went up to £390 ???, ok fair enough. Thought I would find out how much it would be to insure my sj once it's finished. Rang insurance company and they said my no claims would count on both policies. Great. But still a quote came back as £420 and that's all the same info but without my partner. This I am struggling to understand lol. That's with swift cover. But that's still the cheapest I could find. Strange. Bigger = cheaper I think. Can't wait to fix my mot my Renault now. Lol
