How much have you been quoted? I passed my car test when I was 18 and my first years insurance was a couple of £ short of £1000, that was around 2005 and I know things have changed since then.

About 4-5 grand, at first I found a 2 grand one on a comparison website but that quote expired and I can't get it back, even that though was through being a named driver on my dads insurance.

When I was 19 and got my first SJ insurance cost me £1k...

That was 7 years ago though...

Just look forward to the insurance dropping as you get older! :D

My g/fs brother is 18 and his insurance on a Pug 106 diesel is £3k so its not just that it's an SJ, its more that all young drivers insurance is expensive.

You could look into Co-op young drivers insurance, supposedly that can be quite cheap.
They do fit an accelerometer in your car though so I dunno how it would like off-roading?!
