Congrats on your new sj, it looks well smart
Also on the issue of the mpg, with those larger tyres on the your speedo is probably not reading 100% accurate. So you could be covering a few more miles than you think. But they are pretty bad on fuel, i remember being quite shocked when i got mine

when i was running my sammy on the road I was getting 23-25mpg then the original carb died on me and ran seriously rich..... on that tankufl I got an all time low of 18mpg, I then fitted a webber and it was a better carb i never worked out the mpg with the webber but i imagine it to be the same as before, I do have 235/75r15 MT's and rocklobster t box though so its always going to be more thirsty

Hello and welcome
On the fuel note...
I run the 1600 with an SU carb.
This has a direct line in from a 30L fuel tank fed by a electric fuel pump.
In the line i have a fuel regulator which brings it down from 3PSI to 1PSI
The fuel pump is not pressure operated, it is either on or off.
So my carb gets fed the same amount of fuel when it is ticking over or when it is flat out (it never overflows)
The pump has a rating of 12 gallons a hour.
So in theory a 30L / 6 Gallon fuel tank should get me the same distance if driving flat out or very slowly.
But it dont!?
I can do 3 trials with it running all day, or a good 6-7 hour thrash round the fields on one tank?
Figure that one out..
