power steering pump.

Post by Gaz1783 » Sat Oct 11, 2014 10:54 pm

Hi guys, suddenly developed a leak from cap over pressure relief valve? Brass pin sticking out that appears to be broken off. Only just brought the vehicle so unsure as to what or how this operates. Its a vitara 1.6 8v engine and vitara power steering pump. it looks the same pump as used in the guide in the sticky section. can anybody shed some light on this. Thanks in advance Gaz

I take it this is on an SJ? If so I'd get rid of it. Power steering takes all the 'feel' out of a zook.

Sounds like it could be the pressure switch leaking. On an SJ this would be redundant.

Eh? It's one of the best things you can do to an SJ?

Really? (lol) I hate the things, unless you're running massive tyres I can't see the point. And it's just something else to go wrong, as in this case...

Hes got a point. After driving dans with what can only be described as
A go kart steering wheel i was shocked at how light it was. Very impressive.

Maybe I need a rethink.

My last 413 ran 31" tyres with a 12" steering wheel, never had a problem with it.

Perhaps exercise has something to do with it :hahaha:

The main reason I like it is because the wheel no longer snatches when the front tyres hit big rocks or ledges. I used to smash my elbows on my doors all the time offroading without P/S

On road apart from parking in tight spaces I didnt mind having no P/S at all.

Tbh it's very rare that a P/S system plays up.
