Also when you have the tank out check the pipes coming out the top.
On mine the main fuel out pipe had rusted away and was allowing air to get sucked in

When i put the the fuel overflow on my HIF44 hooked up to the fuel return pipe it could only run for a few miles before stalling. I know its a different carb but the point being there are so many things it could be!
