had enough of sj's

Post by stevepsj413 » Thu Aug 07, 2014 12:51 pm

Been working on sj for last 6 months put blood sweat and tears in it, had it all done, welded up 1.6 vit engine in, was on way for mot Monday when oil pump packed in and seized the engine. I fitted the old 1.3 back in, ticks over lovely on my drive as soon as you take it for a drive it runs for about 5 mins then stops, its not getting fuel, changed the pump still the same thing, all pipes from the tank are brand new and not blocked, ive had enough, got about £1500 quid in it and i cant even pop to shops in it. Got that close to smashing it with a big hammer ive decided to sell it, anybody interested, £750 takes it. it cant have that much wrong with it, also had a brand new clutch fitted and the release bearing is of the poorest quality, this needs changing but i do have 1

You'll regret it. we have all been there, I have broken many parts on my SJ from frustration of other parts breaking. If you're running the standard carb on the the 1.3 that might be part of the problem. Where abouts are you?!

take the carb fuel feed line off and pop it in a pot and try starting the car to see if there is a good fuel flow, if so it could be a carb thing, where abouts in york? im only 45 mins away, not got much experience with webers but if you want a hand looking it over just let me know.

Its not a simple thing like a blocked fuel cap is it,as that can often be over looked,i guess the easiest way to check is take the fuel cap off and then start it up and see if it does it then, process of elimination i guess.

hahah we all get like that sometimes!
have you replaced the fuel filter at the back of the car as well?
another thing to check may be the ignition coil... if they are on the way out they can fail when they get warm/hot

Drop the tank and give it a good flush out, could be lots of crap floating around in the tank clogging up the pick up if you haven't done that already?

Also check the fuel tank breather pipe.

Yeah I think ill take tank off n flush it out, then blow down the lines with my compressor to make sure theres not a block, there shouldnt be because all the lines and filters are new, but something could be in the tank, I hope thats the problem. Cheers for the advice
