You'll have to move to Germany, I understand that they are opening more coal-fired power stations and massively expanding their coal mines, I guess the rules only apply to the UK.
The Nissan Leaf is a good example of everything that is wrong with electric cars, how much would that cost without government subsidies? I also note that a couple of days ago Nissan admitted that they are having to sell replacement battery packs at a loss. I don't think any of the major manufacturers want to produce electric cars but upcoming legislation forces them to achieve a minimum mpg across their range, offer a couple of so called 'zero emissions' models and they can continue to sell 'vanity' models, the top of the range performance models that add glamour and sales to the marque; put a Leaf in the range and you can sell GTRs.
What a rip-off

Yeah Germany are but they mine the stuff there..... Unlike good old blighty where it's not deemed feasible - the truth is it's cheaper to mine it in Columbia and ship it across! And don't get me started on subsidies, did you know the renewable energy systems we are building now are subsidised? For every £1 profit an onshore wind farm makes the government chip in a pound of there own, and for every pound an off shore wind farm makes, they give them two! The system is messed up. I wonder how many leafs they have managed to sell compared to GTR's! They seem to have missed the point with these electric cars and that is to make them practical, no one is going to buy one if A it costs a fortune and B you can't use it like a regular car!
I think they need to rethink their stratagy because nones going to change unless there is a benefit in doing so
Re: What a rip-off
The manufacturers would consider it a success if they sold no electric cars, CO and MPG averages aren't based on sales, in many cases zero sales would save them money. As far as subsidies are concerned, not only are the sales of electric cars heavily subsidised but the EU have put up 5 billion Euros for the manufacturers to develop them.
