hi there!
had a wicked day out green laning on sunday and my car did absoulty great and was running perfectly all day!
i was about 1 and a half miles from home when i was going up a slight hill and it started juddering loosing power and juddering so i pulled over checked under the bonnet everything seemed fine and started her up and she went another half a mile and then died completely doing the same thing before. and wouldnt start after that.
the fuel gauge reads half a tank so im assuming its got fuel.
im pretty sure its the fuel lines blocked and the filter as it hasnt been on the road for a few months and all the bumps yesterday made the all the sediment stir up and block the filter ect.
i will take off the fuel pipe between the fuel pump and the carb and then turn the engine over to see if i get any fuel through that should determine if its the carb or not right?
and then take the pipe off between the fuel pump and the fuel filter in the now very muddy place rear wheel arch
i will get some new fuel filters to put inline.
one between the fuel pump and carb.
one between the fuel pump and solid lines on the chassis rail in the engine bay
one between the tank and solid lines.
any other ideas?
its an sj410 1990
when you turn the engine over it just doesnt start. i havent checked for spark yet but will do that first thing.
thanks alot in advance
engine suddenly died and wouldnt start
Re: engine suddenly died and wouldnt start
from the looks of your pics could water getting in somewhere be the cause, drain the fuel from the carb and try with some fresh stuff just in case you've got some water in there, just a thought?
Re: engine suddenly died and wouldnt start
all fixed
actually i was so impressed with my airbox that after i went through that massive flood i opened the air box and it was bone dry!
the air pick up pipe is very close to the exhaust manifold to get a hot air feed to the carb and i thought it might suck up a little bit of water but none atall!
i havent even got a glove on the dizzy and it was fine no miss firing or anything
at the time i broke down i didnt have much light.
this morning i took the fuel pipe off between the fuel pump and carb and she squirted a good load out so i thought blocked jet?
took the air intake pipe off pulled the throttle by hand and the jet gave a good squirt!
then took checked for spark no spark on any plug so one answer to that really! checked the lead and bingo
the ht lead had worked its way loose from the coil but the rubber plug on the lead was still pushed on! so didnt think to check it.
plugged it back in nice and tight and shes away
i bought a selection of fuel filters which cost me about 15 quid before i touched the car this morning ahh well always good to have spare!
cheers!
just shoes always check the simple things first! haha
