The SJ 410 JL that's older than me!
Re: The SJ 410 JL that's older than me!
Hit a stumbling block thanks to a lack of tools!
1. Tough to change shackles without a proper jack or stands - no go.
2. No tyre iron, Mondy one is the right size but head is too wide to fit in... Socket set and a ton of effort did the job for three wheels, but the sockets are too short to properly reach the wheel nuts...
Made it three quarters of the way round then there's two nuts on the last wheel that refuse to budge! Given up before I wreck my socket set...

First thing to get is a trolley jack and some axle stands dude
As for wheel nuts... I like the extendible ones... come in handy for other things too like siezed shock nuts

It's all the sort of stuff that's available at my parents, but can't get there on perished rubber.
Or with one odd wheel...
Not even sure about 40 miles on skinnier tyres with 2 inch shackle lift!

Wheel done with the proper tools, good news!
Now shackles - do you suggest I do bushes at the same time?
If so, where do I get polybushes and for how much? Bits4Vits seems to be dead and gone...

Its easy to do the bushes at the same time, but you dont have to if your bushes are OK.
Once the shackles have been off it will be a simple matter to get them off again.
For the standard shackles you will need the correct size socket/spanner, but mull grips can come in handy as Ive gone to undo them before and stripped the splines that hold the shackle pin in place

So, shackles and bushes are done - and the lumpy idle is almost sorted.
Found the hole in the exhaust so there's that to patch but that's not a problem.
This problem is the arches... Bad, bad and worse. Love to do a virtual lift, but have neither the tools nor expertise.
So what does anyone advise?
Have treated the rust and best plan so far is to watertight up with filler then re-mount the LR arches.
Any better ideas?
I have more photos but can't work them properly on't iPad, will add in a bit...

I've seen worse but that's not very nice to put it mildly. I'd cut all that out and weld in fresh metal, maybe source some new panels for the really bad bits? If you want to go down the virtual lift road maybe there's someone from SCUK near you who can come and help?
If it ticks over...leave it

That'd be perfect - but seems most guys are darn Sarth!
