Thanks Scottie! :D I'll have a close look at the gears and let you know. Re the carb, I don't expect to do anything extreme (not intentionally anyway) so it should do the job.
It's rust Jim, but not as we know it..

Have found a transfer box in good working order for £45 does that sound reasonable?

If its a 410 box that's a great price.

If its a 413/Samurai box I know some breakers sell them for £40 posted.

Thanks Dan. It's a 1991 413 Sami box, but from a never off-roaded 37k car. Guy took it off when he bought the car to fit a 410 box for lower gearing. Thought it sounded Ok?

Update:
Finally she is up and running! After a very slow extraction of the broken head bolt, as it kept crumbling, the new head is on the tappets and other bits sorted and the new Webber carb fitted. Starts first time every time and is running sweet. A couple of new rad hoses and fuel lines fitted and a new thermostat going in today as I'm sure it's sticky. Engine oil drained and replacement filter fitted (the first time in years I reckon) and rad flushed and re filled. Replacement transfer box found on Gumtree fitted and all the gearbox/transfer fluids drained and replaced. Brakes checked. Booked in for an MOT next Monday so I'm sure a new list of works will be identified including some :weld: , electrics etc. A couple of photos attached. More to come....

P.S. Will have to turn the jubilee on the air filter intake around as the bonnet wont close

P.P.S Just won a brand new soft top on ebay, there can't be many around for the long wheel base anymore. Anyone got a bit of frame work going spare??

Been tied up with work of late but here is the MOT result.

Excessive corrosion front wheel arch near and offside
Excessive corrosion near and offside sills
Excessive corrosion near and offside rear sills
No surprises there!
Also,
Nearside stop light defective
Emissions excessive (sorted with a clean air filter)
Excessive play in steering (new box on the way from ebay)
Wiper blades need replacing and washer not working
And that's it- amazing!
Starting the cutting out and welding the week after next but in the meantime have started stripping out the interior to make some room.
Think I need new seats too!
