My Sj, and its recent work.

Post by Henry » Fri Feb 05, 2010 7:30 pm

Since i spent a few months in the summer, working on the sj nearly every day, there hasnt been a great deal to do on it.

But im off a trial on Sunday and there are a few things that need "attention"

Firstly my T-case gear stick isnt attached. This needs to be put back in, and bent slightly so it dosent fowl on the body in 4L. It isnt doing any harm but the fact that is isnt how it should be is bugging me.

While im on the T-case, im going to fit my bucket that i "acquired". This shouldnt take to long but does mean undoing all the props

Secondly i want to take the drivers door apart, and fish out the glass, make a new runner and stick it back in so it actually works!

And last but not least i need to finish cutting the spring ears off on the rear. I made a start a few months ago, but got side tracked when i had a break down to fix!

I will update tomorrow, a nice early start, got to take a tractor to a farm about 15 miles away from home....

Hi H.
Any chance of a photo or two of the transfer case guard. I need to make one up for mine.
as i was bored the other night, i went in the garage, striped two transfer boxes down, and im lucky becuase nigel head(diffliock name) lives not far away, and as hes the kiddy for cutting and welding the rocklobster gear, i thought i would build me a box..
Seen the photos you took!, very nice indeed, does this meen your going to start doing weddings and portraits ??.

sounds like good fun henry! can i ask why you need to take the props off to fit the bucket seat or am i getting the wrong end of stick

and also, how are you going to bend the transfer box stick? cut into it half way down load, bend it over then weld up? i need to do this also for my range rover seats to fit.

im going to make a write up with pictures about fixing the the window winder and how to lubricate it and fix it so its super smooth and easy! sometime next week!

i bet that tractor ride will be good fun :P haha

cheers

Hi Chan.

Im fitting a bucket to my transferbox. the box has to come out, as the case bolts to it, and the mounts then onto landrover engine mounts onto the chassis.

Ive already got buckets, and i just used Suzuki frames and adapted them to fit.

Andy, my dads camera, really want to get it into the mud but bit to flash to get it covered!
I was just messing about taking pictures of the dogs, ive got pleanty more!

And Andy, pics of the bucket are not a problem, will get them up tomorrow

hi there,

so you mean the frame that cradles the transfer box? or is a bucket a transfer box guard.

do you have to drill out the holes for the stud on ethier side of the mount to fit through the chassis?

sounds like a good mod. my mounts are like a bit of elastic

ill await the pictures :P

There is no frame supporting the transfer box. Its basicly a guard that strengthens the case, and acts as protection. It uses the original mounts and bolts onto the transfer case.

I upgraded to landrover engine mounts a while ago, standard ones are crap!

Well this weekend really didnt go to plan

After driving the tractor all the way there, getting a lift back home and doing some jobs, it was about 1PM.

So i got the sj out the shed, dug out the transfer case bucket. This had a crack in one of the mounts, so i welded that all up nice and solid!
By this time i had to go into town to pick up some parts for another project.

Then something bad happened... all i seem to remember is us (Wales) loosing the rugby and after 8:00 everything is a blurr...

Needless to say when i got up this morning at 7, and had one of the biggest hang overs of my life, along with a lot of un explained bruises, and a swollen ankle... i had to be at the trial in 2 hours...

I managed to sort of put the transfer box gear stick in, got loaded up and got there on time.

However although i was hanging out my **** i had a really good day and came third... and m step brother who was also driving my sj and has never done a trial before came second:twisted:

Ive just been sent these of me, so a few pictures for you all 8-)
