Ongoing Alternator problem H reg Escudo/Vitara

Post by Richardds » Thu Mar 06, 2014 11:13 am

Hoping someone might be able to offer some suggestions....

Recently got an H reg Escudo. Immediately after purchasing was evident that Alternator did not work. Re-con fitted - all fine for about a month, then failed to charge battery.

Roadside recovery identified issue as old battery - new battery installed.

Alternator still not charging. Cable between battery and alternator + terminal at back of alternator then replaced. Again, fine for about a month.

Problem back again! Battery waring light on dash does not come on when engine running. Only warning is when stereo stops working, then dashboard lights dim to nothing. Then can only be jump started from spare battery and new one charged again.

Any suggestions appreciated!!
Many thanks

Check the bulb in the instrument panel, some systems won't charge if the bulb is blown.

The battery light should come on with the ignition on and the engine not running, if not its either the bulb as rhinoman says, or the plug in the back of the alternator
