New project

The place to socialise, and relax, if it doesn't fit into anything below it fits here, so tell us that joke, or share that story of your last off-road escapade, but remember new comers the virtual drinks are on you!

New project

Post by ben_moto501 » Mon Jan 27, 2014 11:04 pm

I've not been on this forum for a long time!
Bought myself a reasonably clean Sj410 the other day, minus an engine and seats!
I've already stripped it right down to see what rust needs sorting out, and with a virtual lift and about 6 patches it will be sorted!
Is already sitting on my 33's and the intention is to get some lift springs on it and longer dampers, a Rocklobster t-box, some front seats and an engine! Thinking Massey Ferguson red for the colour!
I was contemplating putting a diesel engine in it but I've now decided (I think) to get hold of a samurai/413 1.3l engine as I know my way round them rather well now, they fit and they are very light!
If anyone has an engine, gear box and all ancillaries (basically everything under the bonnet) please get in touch! I'm in Taunton, Somerset.
Quite looking forward to this project, but it will be a long one as money is tight these days with a house and a ten month old girl!
Any input will be appreciated!

Ben

Hi.

If you are going to go to the effort of making mounts to fit a g series engine to a 410 chassis I would go for the g16. Not much heavier but a huge improvement on the 1.3.

Nice! Glad to hear you are avoiding the diesel route. Too heavy by far. Like Dan said stick a Vit 1.6 lump in it!
If it ticks over...leave it

Sounds like a tidy little project. As said 1.6 is almost identical to the 1.3.

Started the virtual lift on the front end! Cleaned the paintwork back to check for rust creeping up but it's surprisingly clean! Going to cut the other side out like this and then sort out getting the metal to weld it back together!

Wow that's pretty rust free for a 1985 front wing!
