SJ410 Couldn't get reverse!

Post by JoeB3169 » Tue Jan 14, 2014 5:38 pm

Hi all,
My 410 was always a bit difficult going into reverse and then a few weeks ago it wouldn't go at all, so I took the gear lever off and the casted part which sits above the selectors and houses the bottom of the gear stick itself. I managed to identify the problem to be one of the spring-loaded plungers which provides the resistance into reverse. When the plunger is pushed in, a ballbearing is forced to climb onto it and there were a few rough edges, so i smoothed them down but still no luck.

I've now decided that it must be due to internal corrosion and wear in the cast part istelf, so to get it back on the road just removed the ballbearing and the spring above it resulting in no resistance into reverse, which is okay when im driving it because I know to be careful, but anyone else could damage the gearbox by accidentally getting reverse.

So I am now needing the cast part along with free-moving plungers to get it back to normal, if anybody knows where i might find one it would be a great help!

Thanks

Bits like that try suzuki main dealer tbh, had to use them for most of my gearbox parts unless you want a second hand one in which case I have a 410 box I can strip.

Cheers i'll check the main dealer and see what the prices are like, its probably going to be worth buying new with it seeming to be a common thing
