Cant get rear drum off

Post by MPD123 » Thu Dec 05, 2013 7:31 pm

87 413, handbrake on rear prop.
There is one blanking grommet on the backplate but does not seem to reveal adjuster to back off brakes, tried the tapping all around drum with FBH, tried pry bars and twatting it with hardwood block on inside drum edge...
Other one came off p.o.p
My pre MOT work has not started too well !

Are we talking transmission drum brake? Or rear wheel drum?

If its the transmission drum, sounds stupid, you have removed the flange nut?

Well the manual says use a slide hammer.
I think people put the wheel on the wrong way round and hit it

Slide hammer or just undo the drum nuts and bray the wheel with a big hammer.

I just put the wheel back on and give it a kick or two. Make sure its secure on its stands before you do that - no scissor jacks!!

it's the hand brake drum guys!

just make sure you back the shoes off completely, release the handbrake, remove the centre bolt, and it should come off. if it doesn't, you might have to hook a slide hammer on it, and just work your way around, prying it off
It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out
