Quite true Anton but I am not a Ford fan...Kawasakis, yes.
(The XR2 sold for 3 times what he paid for it btw)

I'm not a ford fan either, but I do think a MK1 escort would be a lot of fun.
Then again, if I was looking for a RWD car to just use for weekend fun, I'd probably go for an old MR2 or 3 series, not a Ford, so I'm with you there.
I know a man who's got an XR3 cabrio (might be XR3i) that has a few minor issues (faded paint etc) - can I get him to talk to you? You might be the man to help him shift it, because pristine cars go much faster than "pretty good" cars.

Well, nothing is free really. The ZXR is payment (part) to do the body work on the rust bug and respray the bugger. Stripped all the lights and chrome work to start sanding...guess what...more rust. When this VW is finished it will have cost him £3500. He might, just might, get that back. What a waste of time.

Re: not a build thread as yet...but...
He bought the car for £1000, has spent £2000 on it so far. My fee is £500 plus the bike.
Just think what kind of zook you could get for £3500! He did have two SJ's at one time but sold them for a sodding Disco which is the most crappy thing ever. Unreliable, overheats, electrics are dodgy and he's spent god knows how much doing that thing up. It was orange when he got it, looked pretty good, he then had it painted black (not by me) and it looks awful. Hey ho
Made a start on the Beetle...all filler and underneath is rust. What a car.

Done quite a bit now, had to fill all the little holes that hold on the chrome strips, he doesn't want them on the car, indicators are being moved so the wings have been filled and smoothed out. Hey, this thing might look half decent when it's done!

Work progresses...found a set of Empi indicators, a bargain at a tenner, brand new. Check out the sticker!

Thanks Anton. If I'm honest this has put me off Beetles for life...
