Gearbox/Transferbox Rebuild Kits

Post by NylonAdmiral » Wed Sep 18, 2013 3:27 pm

Seeing as my gearbox is sounding progressively worse with every outing, and my transfer box isn't sounding much better, I'm thinking I'm going to swap them out.

Rather than replacing them with equally overworked items I'm thinking about completely rebuilding both before installing them.

I've been looking at the rebuild kits that are available from the likes of Trail Tough and Low Range Off Road.

Does anyone know where you can get these kind of kits in the UK or do they all have to be imported from the US?

Also I'm wondering whether or not it's more cost effective to get one of these kits, or whether or not to just buy equivalent bearings etc from bearing suppliers, then just get gaskets/syncros etc from the usual suppliers/Suzuki.

Anyone got any opinions on this?

Thanks

He also sells the his version of a rocklobster so might be able to do bearings to ask him?

Thanks Rodden, there are a couple of places that sell the gasket kits.

I see a few people have spoken highly of ORA so might well give him a call and see if he's got anything.

Do Rockwatt have a website? I can only find a Facebook page for them?

Sell everything you should need to rebuild the transfer case but not the gear box!

Rob Butler of ora is really good bloke you will normally get hold of his misses if you call them they normally do more jimny stuff but always worth keeping in mind!
Jimny bits sell all sorts of bits for suzuki's!
As far as I know rockwatt only has Facebook but I might be wrong!

Thanks again. Yeah, I've found a few places that sell enough of the parts that I could cobble together a "kit" to do the transfer box.

The hardest part is the syncros etc for the gearbox, I might see how much they are from Suzuki...

BTW have you had your back looked at yet?

Yeah been diagnosed with a bulging L3 disc! In a shit load of pain from the first session of manipulation today might be 6-8 weeks before I'm back to working on the jimny so might have to give the plains trip a miss until I'm fit again! It's beginning to get on my nerves now!

£48  I would go to jimny bits http://www.jimnybits.co.uk/shop/sj-/-sa ... _1087.html or bigjimny, they are a lot cheaper.

The bearings are just standard sizes, chances are if your Tbox is whining it's a worn counter shaft and needle bearings

http://www.jimnybits.co.uk/shop/sj-/-sa ... _1098.html

all the other bearings are standard sizes available form anywhere, much like most of the bearings in the gearbox
