rev counter fitted.. now to bring the revs down..

Post by Jay18 » Mon Jul 22, 2013 6:25 pm

I have fitted a rev counter today, it works well but now when I start it, engine warm I have to rev it a couple of times to make it run, usually when I've driven it if I turn the engine off then turn the key it starts without using the choke, but now as I say, i have to rev it, pulling the choke right out doesn't do anything on a warm engine, does anyone know what could cause this? ..

I have got the feed for the rev counter from the negative on the cool, the power supply for the rev counter I have got from a switched wire from the ignition, the ground for the rev counter is grounded on the dash bar underneath the dash..

have you tried disconnecting the rev counter to make sure that is your actual fault and not just a coincidence this fault occurred st the same time?

as i cant think of any reason why it would do that.

I will have to try that, I can't work out how it could cause that, I'll just have to see how it starts in the morning on a cold start, I will post a pic of it when I get on my laptop..

Most rev counters aren't wired to to the coil + only the coil - as a signal wire. The live feed for the gauge should be just wired to a switched live feed. Personally I wouldn't ever wire any accessories to the coil +

Jay the signal wire for the gauge is definitely wired to the - side of the coil isn't it? if not it could effect the ignition spark as it will short out.

Any chance of some pictures of how it's all wired.
