I got a 360 for two reasons. Cost and Forza Motorsports.

IF I even get a console from the upcoming set it'll be a PS4 for cost. On the counterbalance Sony consoles also get Motorstorm and Gran Tourismo. Although Forza is better than Gran Tiz, it's not good enough to counter all the things wrong with the xBone.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Thats all a load of over hyped BS. Games can be traded at certain retailers and you can swap or give games as many times as you want with a list of 10 friends. Also you can lend a game once to anyone else as long as they have been on your friends list for more than 30 days or gift it permanantly.

Regarding the always online thing. It dont bother me. If I turn my console on and XBL or my internet is down I turn it off again as I only play online. Plus I cant remember the last time my internet connection or XBL was down for longer than an hour in the past 5 years or so.

I think the best thing about it which they are not marketing enough is the fact you can play games anywhere and lend them to friends without the disc.

E.G

I take a very long drive to Toms for the weekend to go offroading and one night we decide to play xbox. Tom dosen't have the new call of duty but I do. Unfortunatly I left the disc at home. Not a problem I can just sign in and share the game to Tom. His console will download the game from my cloud and we can play away. In addition to this if Tom really likes the new COD and wants to carry on playing when I go home I can give him permission to play this installed copy of my game whenever I am not playing it at home. If he decides he really really likes it and I am bored of it I can gift the rights to my game to him in exchange for some apple based beverages all with the disc still sat on a shelf at my house.

I didn't think it was trying to! The point of the thing is to bring gaming cost down - the thing is basically the guts of a high end phone/tablet connected to a tv for a quater of the cost, offering games for between nothing and a few quid.

Each to his own, and I don't plan on getting any console of any kind (I so rarely play games, and when I do, it's the type that PC's are much better at - strategy games like Civ 5 and fps shooters like borderlands or fallout 3) but I thought that the idea of a moddable, cheap, fun toy might remind people of the SJ...

I totally get the point its not supposed to compete but being a console with a controller thats where it ends up sitting.

For quite a while now you have been able to connect ps3 controllers to maemo, meego, and android phones to play games and all these devices have TV out so thats essentially what you would get without a screen on the device.

I think phone/tablet gaming is doing well because you can take it anywhere but that is tied to tye living room where people want proper gaming. (Which is why I compare it to consoles)

Others have tried and failed with similar products before. Maybe there is a market for people using it travelling if the price comes down a little as you could just chuck it in a bag and use it anywhere with a tv and a plug. I guess people will jist stick with phones and tablets tho.

Personally I'm considering it as a media center, rather than a console - it should run netflix/nowtv etc pretty smartly. And it's an open platform, so it shouldn't be long before someone bolts a blueray drive to one.

DRM would be interesting, but Google will probably see the sense of making blueray work on the Android platform if it takes off...

And let's face it, Google isn't going to have much trouble with that.

I'm also hoping that $99 doesn't end up translating into £99. Usually does, which is utter crap - it's cheaper to ship stuff here from the factories in China than it is to ship to the US, so it always annoys me when we end up paying more for something.

End of rant...

As I say, consoles aren't really my thing, but it does look interesting. It's got quad core tegra3 inside, so it's not going to rival the X1 or PS4, but it's *way* ahead of the 360 and PS3 - which still cost more!

I guess the real benefit I see from this thing, though, is the sheer cheapassness of it. But then, if that means less dev time is put into the games, that could be it's downfall too!

Still, seeing as MS have ported Windows to the architecture, it should run Windows 8. Pretty darn fast. $99 PC, anyone???

What I'd really like to see is Windows 7 (or, if you insist, 8) on the X1 and PS4. Or maybe Android/Linux. They're both basically AMD64 based PC's, so the only thing stopping that happening is Microsoft and Sony locking the platforms down.

I tell you what, though - AMD's future looks bright again all of a sudden thanks to the X1 and PS4! Wish I'd bought shares in them a few months ago...

Ahh i see i understand it know. It rather "grey" how i think Microsoft explained it.The idea of all the cloud thing and sharing this sharing that from long distance sounds really good to me!. I still think i might get one though when they get released. But i wont get one just in-case my sister gets one but i think she is getting the ps4 because i haven't turned my Xbox in days for some reason i play my Xbox for weeks on end and then don't play it for like two months!

Anyway cheers Dan for explaining that!

I been playing bf3 since it came out, can't wait for bf4, or halo or forza or ryse or Titan fall or any of them lol,
Cheers
