Re: Towing a caravan with an SJ410?
Jay - you should be fine towing that, but beware - your vehicle may weigh more than the plated kerbweight, but the law simply states that your car's official kerbweight must be higher than the caravan's MTPLM (Maximum Total Permissable Laiden Mass). The caravan's empty (MRO - Mass In Running Order) weight is irrelevant.
So if your caravan's max weight is more than the SJ's *plated* kerbweight, it's illegal. But according to this the caravan's max is 752kg. I'm fairly sure a 410's kerbweight (unmodded) is about 870.
You should be fine, as long as you have a cat B licence that allows for a max trainweight of 3.5 tons. Pretty sure everyone's got that, but might be best to make sure. And remember - that 3.5 ton figure is for the car's max allowable laiden weight + trailers max allowable weight, not their weight at the time of towing - so towing an empty 1 ton trailer with an empty 1 ton pickup truck might be more than 3.5 tons in the eyes of the law, even if physics say you've got 2 tons there.

Re: Towing a caravan with an SJ410?
Like i said earlier in this thread, a camping trailer was fine on the back, a motorbikes trailer with bike was a real hassle, took all my power and was a real chore to towDarrell wrote:Don't know about you guys but I don't think I could tow anything more than a wheelbarrow up a hill in 2wd high

Re: Towing a caravan with an SJ410?
Here is a bit of a curve ball for you.
Why not a trailer tent? Less frontal area, so should be easier to tow, probably a lot lighter. Does the job for occasional use.
Something like this. (This has nothing to do with me, just one I found)

PLUS, you don't have the shame of being a caravan owner then, that got to be a bonus!!
