So now its conked out and is completely empty, that we know 100%

Have you filled it back up? How many litres?

Did the gauge read empty when it conked out?

When you refilled it how far up did the gauge go?

How strange, could it be a blocked breather? Do you get any bubbling from the tank as yo fill it?

Is it the correct tank? How badly dented?

Any photos?

Breather shouldn't be an issue when filling it Andy as its not sealed, the air can just escape out the filler neck.

I'd be whipping the tank off and having a look inside. Got a rat off somewhere with it.

Yea it should. I was wondering tho as the filler inlet it's half way up the tank so possible that air is trapped?

Drop the tank out and start investigating I think.

Or jack the sj up on the filler side so the inlet is a lot higher up or disconnect the one way breather and see if more fuel can be put in. Maybe this
Could tell if an airlock is apparent? Possibly a silly suggestion.

I'm understanding now Andy. Its filling the bottom half while air vents out the filler. Once its half full the tank is airlocking as the breathers on the top of the tank may be blocked.

Even easier. Pop the fuel return off the pump and it'll act as a breather while you fill it.

Tank out job.

Had a read of your posts as I thought maybe an airlock, but then thought - no it will just vent via the filler. However not thinking enough about it your right the filler pipe is not on the top and if it can't breathe then that's as far as your going to fill it. Your also correct if you removed the return pipe from the pump it would act as a vent (just for a test fill from a jerry can).
I assume this pipe I have marked in red is just to vent the tank when filling.
What do you guys recon

Yup, think thats the main vent darrell. On the tank top there is that vent and a fuel return.
