Hello!

I have just bought myself another Lj80 and discovered this forum whilst browsing for info and parts. I had one as my first car about 5-6 years ago and thought I had to have another so here it is.
The good bits:
its already got a SOA from an SJ so brake discs at the front, all looks to have been done pretty well too.
very little rust, only found one hole so far

The bad bits,
Its not UK registered so i need an MOT before I can register it
the winch doesnt work, nor do a lot of the electrics
the exhaust is the most rediciulous thing I have ever seen
the petrol tank isnt original and is in the pick-up bed
a few ball joint have gone
no service history so a timing belt change is probably in order.

I paid probably over the odds for it but the body work is in very good nick, much better than my last one.

Plans are at the minute, get it through an MOT ASAP and register it in the UK, then maybe this winter or next, full body off restoration.

So... if anyone had a pair of doors lying around (long shot i know) let me know because I would love to have some doors on it! Also, has anyone found anywhere to get a new exhaust from? im thinking a custom might be the answear but if I could get a standard one, it would make things much easier.

I didnt pay the asking price but it was still a bit much for what it is. yep, going to restore it to pretty much standard, i think id keep the axles and things, i like how it looks and trying to find lj axles would be next to impossible!
the light bar on the top looks terrible and the rest of the roll cage is going as well. quick question for you all, on my last LJ the windscreen rattled around a bit and ended up almost splitting the metal round the two fixing, unfortunatly the welding on the roll cage to the windscreen is pretty bad so i dont think it'll go through the MOT so if i took it off, do you guys get any issues with the windscreen? and how do you get around it?

Best thing for the windscreen is to take it off for its MOT!!!!

If you need a petrol tank, I once saw an LJ fitted with a mk1/2 Ford Escort van/estate car tank, it fits in the same space but it required an extra strip of metal welded to the flange and new holes drilling to make it fit. but it looked like it was meant to be there. Mind you not sure of the availability of them nowadays. I don't have to worry anyway I've got 2 new LJ tanks!!!

If you want original axles I have loads of complete ones and piles of original drums, hubs etc. I only use the diffs, axle casings and half shafts as I always fit SJ brakes, hubs etc.

I would think your local motor factor should be able to get an exhaust, they were still available through Bosal a few years ago. Pipers used to have some stainless steel ones as well which were only a little bit more than a mild steel one. They used to sound great on the overrun. Not very good off road though they break easier than the mild steel ones. As I found out the first time I went off road with it, front pipe broke off the front box in the first 5mins!!! They may still have some gathering dust on a shelf somewhere. I'm modifying an SJ410 Janspeed for my latest LJ

I've also get spare doors as well, probably 4 sets of steel doors as well as some soft doors.

Engine wise, throw it away and get an SJ410, whizz kid or suppercarry 1 litre lump.
