Just bought this SJ would like some info on how to lift it?

Post by ReamoSJ410 » Sun Dec 09, 2012 9:10 pm

hi there ive just bought an sj 410 totally standard

i would like to do the 2" longer shackle lift but im not sure what else i have to do to allow for the lift...

some people have said that you do 2" at the front of the leaf spring and 1" at the rear of the spring???

...and that all you have to do is disconnect the brake hoses to allow more travel on them????

really confused...pleasssse help....thanks

Firstly don't waste your money on shackles they have more negatives than plus points when used with the standard suspension.

My advice would be to just get some decent slightly oversized mud terrain tyres and enjoy it as it is for a while.

As already said. Lift shackles kill the ride. Kill the springs. Kill the handling.

Presumably you want to fit bigger tyres. Lift springs are readily available. Depending on what size tyres you want to fit some basic body modifications may do.

215R15s will fit straight on. Not sure what that is in inches.

all ive heard s bad things about extended shackles, but after doing some research i have found the cheapest and bes lift to be the bedford rascal rear spring swap.

you need a pair of rascal rear springs and fit them as a replacement for the sj rear springs, then remove the flat leaf on the sj rear springs and fit them at the front of the car, youll also need extended brake hoses, longer shock obsorbers Missing link shackles or weld a bracket to the front of your sj chassis to extend it about 1 or 2" scottie will tell you about that im sure, it all comes down to how cheap you can get a good set of rascal rear springs for...

when it comes to leaf over axle or SPOA (Spring Over Axle) you do need to have good welding skills, you will need to weld a new perch on your axle where each spring sits, ive never really looked at doing a SPOA as i dont like the idea of welding new perches on my axle incase it damages the axle or the shafts inside and they have to be very strong...
