HOW DO I FIND PARTS?

Post by Irish_Samurai » Thu Nov 29, 2012 9:03 am

Hi all,

I am restoring my recently purchased Samurai. When it comes to the brakes....I'm STUMPED?!?!

Been trawling the threads, and from what I can gather there are many variants in terms of brakes for Samurai's....and some lack of clarity over what's an SJ or a Samurai. (Especially for a newbie!)

Mine's a 1989 Japanese built Samurai. It's got discs up front and drums in the back. I've been looking at new front pads, rear shoes, rear cylinders and a rear drum hardware kit (springs and clips). I was about to order parts from buycarparts.co.uk The model was Samurai/Sierra/SJ413. They give a list of vehicles that are covered by the parts, with a lot of variations in engine kw??

So basically....how do I know what brake parts I need for my model? And what kW is my model? It's 1.3 G13A engine.

Anyone ever bought from that website? Or any other suggestions?

Any help would be much appreciated. I've never ordered parts online before - and am anxious not to get the wrong parts.

Mamy thanks

Bernard

Jap sjs use the Aisin callipers, there's only 2 different callipers they use on all SJs.

Try these guys http://www.brakesint.co.uk/

I'm pretty sure they should be able to get the right parts using your reg number?

Hi Scottie,

Thanks for the reply!!! I'll check those guys out.

What about the rear drums? Are there different set ups for them? For the rears I was looking for shoes, cylinders and a set of hardware (springs and clips etc)....but now I am not sure if they are model specific? (Something about single inlet cylinders or double inlet?)

I'm sorry that it's so vague...I'm a little overwhelmed with the differences!

Thanks again for the repsonse!

that's all I can find at the moment there used to be a drum springs replacement kit but I can't find it now, but if I was you I would go to a motor factors as they are easier to work with, I find that eBay send out wrong parts and online shops if its wrong part you have the hassle of sending them back, and motor factors use you chassis or engine number for parts...

Thanks again guys.

Jay...thanks for the links, but I think the caliper rebuild kit is for Spanish built models, and the fitting kit is for 92-99. Mine's an '89. Thanks anyway

The rear cylinders are not the same as 1 is double inlet = 1 pipe in, 1 pipe out
The other is 1 pipe in, 1 bleed nipple
