Water temp sensor

Post by lazy rambler » Sat Oct 06, 2012 6:54 pm

I've just got my 1.6 up and running but I've got a slight problem.

To start with all was fine with the engine, but the temp sensor was just below the line for H but the engine didn't seem excessive hot. I had a chat with my mechanic and he suggested it was because I had a Vitara sensor going to an SJ gauge so I should try my old gage.

I have two SJ sensors lying around but neither will register on the gauge.

Is my mechanics suggestion correct? And what could be causing the SJ sensors not to work?

Don't know about the sensors that aren't working, but yes you need the right sensor to match the gauge or you will get incorrect readings.

Not sure if the SJ and the Vit are the same thread size for an easy swap though :er: .

Thread seems the same both go in fine, the two SJ one I have are different types though I'll try and grab a pic tomorrow. I thinking of fitting an after market one if I can't get it to work.
